I reach for this one when I’m run down and want something that tastes nice rather than something I have to force down. Strawberries and kiwi carry most of the flavour, the orange keeps it fresh, and the whole lot comes out bright and sweet enough that I never have to talk myself into it. The vitamin C is a bonus I only think about afterwards.
Why these ingredients work
Kiwi is quietly one of the best sources of vitamin C going, beating an orange gram for gram. Strawberries bring more of the same along with most of the sweetness, and the orange tops up both the flavour and the folate. Between the three of them a single glass lands at around 280mg of vitamin C, and the NHS recommends 40mg a day for adults, so one glass covers you several times over. It is a sweet juice, so I keep the portion to one glass rather than treating it like water.
FAQ
Is this juice high in sugar?
It is on the sweeter end. A glass sits at about 28g of sugar, all of it from the fruit itself. If you want to take the edge off, swap half the strawberries for a cucumber or dilute it with a splash of water. Not a problem, just one to keep to a single glass.
Can I add ginger?
You can, and I often do when I’m actually ill. A small knob, peeled and fed through the juicer, adds a bit of heat and a bit of comfort. Keep it to a two pence piece sized chunk or it takes over the whole drink.
Do I have to peel the kiwi and orange?
The orange yes. The pith turns the juice bitter if you leave it on. Kiwi you can leave the skin on if your juicer handles it and you have given it a good wash, but I peel it for a smoother drink and a cleaner colour.

Ingredients
- 250 g strawberries, hulled

- 2 large oranges, peeled
Instructions
Juicer method
- Wash the strawberries and hull them, then peel the kiwis and the oranges. Cut anything your juicer needs into smaller pieces.
- Feed the orange, kiwi and strawberry through the juicer, finishing with the strawberries so they push the last of it through.
- Stir, pour into two glasses over ice if you like, and drink straight away.
Blender method
- Wash and prep everything the same way: hull the strawberries, peel the kiwis and oranges, and cut them into chunks.
- Add the fruit to a high-speed blender with 100ml of cold water.
- Blend on high for 30 to 45 seconds until completely smooth.
- Pour through a fine-mesh sieve or nut milk bag into a jug, pressing the pulp to get the last of the juice, then serve.
