This is the juice I reach for after a meal that’s sat a bit too heavy. Pineapple and fennel both have a reputation for helping with bloating, and ginger is the classic stomach-settler, so the three of them together make a genuinely useful drink when your digestion needs a nudge.
It tastes nothing like you’d expect a digestion juice to taste, either. The pineapple carries most of the flavour, so it’s sweet and bright rather than medicinal.
Why these ingredients work
Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that helps your body break down protein, which is why it’s often paired with heavy meals. Fennel has been used for centuries to ease bloating and wind, it’s the same reason restaurants hand you fennel seeds after an Indian meal. Ginger is well studied for helping settle the stomach and ease nausea. Cucumber and lemon keep it light and stop it being too sweet.
FAQ
Can I juice fennel bulb raw?
Yes, the bulb is the part you want, it’s crisp and mildly sweet with a faint aniseed taste. Save the fronds for a garnish or a salad.
Does bromelain survive juicing?
Bromelain is present in fresh pineapple, and it’s most concentrated in the core, so include a bit of the core rather than trimming it all away.
Will this fix my bloating?
It can genuinely help with mild bloating after a heavy meal, but persistent bloating is worth mentioning to a doctor rather than trying to juice your way out of it.
