Green juice gets a bad name for tasting like lawn clippings, and I understand why. This one doesn’t, because green grapes do the smoothing. They’re sweet enough to round out the kale without the sugar hit you’d get from mango or pineapple.
The cucumber keeps it light, the kiwi adds vitamin C, and the result is a green juice you’ll actually look forward to.
Why these ingredients work
Green grapes are the secret here, they soften the kale without piling on sugar. Kale brings vitamin K and a stack of nutrients, and kiwi adds a big dose of vitamin C. Cucumber keeps the whole thing light and hydrating. A squeeze of lemon brightens it up so the flavours don’t muddle together.
FAQ
Is this juice high in sugar?
Less than you’d think. The grapes bring sweetness, but grapes are mostly water, so the sugar per glass stays modest compared with a fruit-only juice.
Can I use red grapes instead?
You can, but green grapes are a bit tarter, which works better against the kale. Red will make it sweeter.
Do I need to peel the kiwi?
No, just give it a wash and throw it in. The skin is where a lot of the fibre and nutrients are.
